Take an ICS-affiliated class
The easiest way to get involved is by taking a course affiliated with the Institute. These are project-based courses that integrate critical storytelling with important social issues. Student are generally expected to engage in academic research and to write a final research paper.
There are no ICS-affiliated courses in Spring 2024. Check back mid-semester for Fall 2024 opportunities.

CSM Honors Project
College of San Mateo offers a unique Honors program that allows students to take any transferable course for Honors credit. The program requires students to enroll in a semester-long research seminar in addition to their “foundation” coursework. Interested students can pair their ICS-affiliated courses with the Honors Project. For more information, visit the CSM Honors Project.
Note: the Honors Project requires an application and students must meet the program’s academic requirements.

Fellowships
The Institute for Critical Storytelling occasionally has funding for student fellowships, which provide students an opportunity to work with Institute faculty on their research and receive mentoring as the fellows work on their own projects.
There are currently no fellowship opportunities, but check back soon!
